    The School Dog Company is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people in all schools we work with.

    Our Commitment

    We recognise that safeguarding is everyone's responsibility. All members of our team are fully trained in safeguarding procedures and hold enhanced DBS checks. We work closely with schools to ensure our programmes complement and support existing safeguarding policies.

    Enhanced DBS Checks

    All staff hold current enhanced DBS certificates with barred list checks.

    Safeguarding Training

    Regular Level 2 and Level 3 safeguarding training for all team members.

    Risk Assessments

    Comprehensive risk assessments for all activities involving children.

    Child-Centred Approach

    All programmes designed with children's safety and wellbeing as the priority.

    Working with Schools

    When working with your school, we will:

    • Provide copies of all DBS certificates upon request
    • Follow your school's safeguarding and child protection policies
    • Report any safeguarding concerns to your Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
    • Ensure all activities are appropriately supervised
    • Train handlers in safeguarding awareness specific to therapy dog interactions
    • Review and update our practices in line with current guidance

    Safer Recruitment

    Our recruitment process includes identity verification, reference checks, enhanced DBS checks, and safeguarding interviews. We follow Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) guidance and maintain records of all checks and training.
